A GROUP of courageous supporters took a charitable plunge to raise funds for patients with motor neuron disease.

On Sunday December 19, the group dived in the North Sea from Frinton and more than £ 6,000 has been raised so far.

More than 50 people attended the event, including swimmers from Frinton and members of Accountants Lambert Chapman.

The group then celebrated the event with a rally where they tasted mulled wine and chopped pies.

Even though the weather was not the best as it was a cold and foggy morning, Anne Lipscomb, one of the event’s hosts, highlighted why it was so important.

She said: “We run a small group called the Colchester and North Essex group, which is part of the Motor Neuron Disease Association, focused on caring for people with the disease.

“There isn’t much medically that can be done to help them, so we support them in other ways, like reflexology massages and gardening aids.

“This is the second dive of our vacation, last year we only had six people at the event due to restrictions so it was a bit of an experience.

“We hope to make this an annual event in December and this year has been a great way to kick off that.”
