Boston Marathon

Here are some of Boston’s most popular road races in 2022.

The Boston Marathon isn’t the only way you run through the streets of Boston for charity every year.

The 5Ks, 10Ks and other road races below are some of the most popular in the city, with courses on water, through historic neighborhoods or even inside Fenway Park.

GBH 5K Run for Public Media

April 24

Runners of all abilities are welcome at this 5K at Artesani Park in Brighton. A fun 1-mile kids’ run kicks off the festivities at 9 a.m., followed by a traditional 5K along the Charles River at 10 a.m.

Boston’s Memorable Race

May 29

The Race to Remember Boston on Memorial Day weekend honors the service of first responders, especially those who have lost their lives. The 5K and Half Marathon both start at the Seaport Hotel and take participants throughout downtown Boston. Proceeds from the race will benefit organizations including the Alzheimer’s Association, Cops for Kids With Cancer, Boys’ and Girls’ Club and Sole Train.

Boston Waterfront 5K

June 18

The McCourt Foundation, an organization that helps patients and families affected by neurological disorders, is hosting the Boston Waterfront 5K in June. The course begins at the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal in the Seaport and features a one kilometer race along the water, plus a post-race celebration with drinks and music.

BAA 10K

June 26

This 10k starts and ends on Charles Street in Beacon Hill and takes runners through historic Back Bay. The event benefits Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is the second leg of the BAA’s annual distance mix, including the April 5K and November Half Marathon.

Run to base

July 30

The annual Run to Home Base is an optional 5K or 9K through the streets of Boston, ending with a run through the base in Fenway Park. Presented by the Red Sox Foundation, the race benefits Home Base, an organization that helps veterans and their families.

St. Jude Walk/Run

September 24

The St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer takes place across the country – the Boston Run takes place in September from Boston Common. Runners can participate individually or as a team and raise funds to support St. Jude’s mission, helping families in need with medical care.

Boston Fire Department 10K Memorial Run

October 16

This annual memorial run honors members of the Boston Fire Department and Local 718 who have lost their lives in the line of duty. All proceeds from the race will be donated to the department’s Cardiovascular and Cancer Screening Initiative. The event includes a 5k walk or a 10k run, starting at Florian Hall in Dorchester.

BAA Half Marathon

November 13

The annual Boston Athletic Association Half Marathon takes place November 13 and winds its way through the Brookline section of the Emerald Necklace chain of parks. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund present the race. The half marathon is the third race in the BAA’s medley distance, including the April 5k and June 10k.
