Leinster Rugby have announced that Peter McVerry Trust is their second charity partner of the 2021/22 season under the Charitable Affiliate Program which first launched in November 2020.
Like last season, Leinster Rugby will work again with a new charity each month in the hopes of raising the profile of that charity and Peter McVerry Trust is the second charity selected by the club.
Peter McVerry Trust is a national housing and homeless charity committed to reducing homelessness and the harm caused by substance abuse and social disadvantage.
The national headquarters are in Dublin and the charity has a wide reach in Leinster with a regional office to the north-east in Drogheda and another regional office in Naas.
In addition to helping raise the profile of the Peter McVerry Trust, Life Style Sports, the official business partner of Leinster Rugby, has teamed up with adidas to donate cold weather clothing to the Peter McVerry Trust ahead of the winter months. future.
Welcoming the news, Pat Doyle, CEO of Peter McVerry Trust, said: âWe are delighted to have been chosen as Leinster Rugby’s charity partner for December 2021.
âWinter is the busiest time of the year for our charity and this year we will be working with over 10,000 people, a 20% increase from last year. The partnership will increase public awareness of the problem of homelessness and the supports we can offer in Leinster and across Ireland.
âUnfortunately, the fundraising environment has been incredibly difficult since the onset of Covid-19. As Christmas 2021 approaches, we again rely heavily on the generosity of the people who support our work. Working with Leinster Rugby will raise much-needed funds to support those affected by homelessness in Ireland and we are extremely grateful for their support and the support of their community.
Peter McVerry Trust was founded in 1983 and by 2020 the association worked with over 7,800 people and was active in 28 local authorities across Ireland.
Leinster Rugby players Elaine Anthony, Jennie Finlay, David Hawkshaw, Ross Molony and Josh van der Flier, as well as representatives from Life Style Sports and adidas attended the launch at Leinster Rugby headquarters at UCD.
“Life Style Sports is delighted to be part of this initiative in partnership with Leinster Rugby and adidas” said Emma Mulligan, Marketing Manager for Life Style Sports.
âPeter McVerry Trust is an extremely worthy charity and we are happy to support such a worthy cause.
âCharities across the country have had a very difficult year, so when the opportunity arose to support Peter McVerry Trust, we were delighted to join us. “
Peter McVerry Trust operates a range of services in all counties of Leinster with a total of 53 services in the region.
Services include prevention, emergency shelter, services for those under 18, addiction services and housing, and in 2021 the Peter McVerry Trust has supported nearly 10,000 people in Leinster alone.
For the month of December, Leinster Rugby will digitally support the Peter McVerry Trust and his massive efforts to tackle homelessness in Ireland while the gift of cold weather clothing from Life Style Sports and adidas will be delivered to the three offices based in Leinster.
Leinster Rugby has also confirmed that Bank of Ireland will continue to support the charity partnership program this season and that its Player of the Month award donation will now go to the monthly charity affiliate, rather than the player in question, a move that is also supported by the players of Leinster Rugby.
Eamon de Búrca, Head of Sponsorship with Leinster Rugby, commented: âIt’s great to be able to bring together our premium partners, like Life Style Sports and adidas, as well as some of our charitable partners to help spread awareness of the great work they do, but also make contributions and in this case , donation of kits to the Peter McVerry Trust, which will hopefully help significantly through the winter months.
âBank of Ireland has also been huge supporters of the charity over the past year and it’s great to see this player-backed support and great to see them back here this morning to help kickstart the activation. of a month. “
Like all selected charities, Peter McVerry Trust was selected by Leinster Rugby after a consultation process involving the management group of the Men, Women and Academy teams and consultation with the sponsors and premium partners and the Official Leinster Supporters Club.
